As you've no doubt read in countless news articles, a firestorm has been raging recently about Facebook's privacy policies and their planned changes to make more user information available to third-party websites. In response to this fierce criticism from users and privacy groups, CEO founder Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday unveiled plans to revamp and simplify Facebook's privacy controls. These changes will be rolled out over the next few weeks, but no specific date(s) have been set.

Even before the current controversy erupted, Facebook was already in the process of implementing new APIs and new code for third-party websites to sync, connect, and share on FB. This process is ongoing and somewhat unpredictable.

So what does all this mean for the users of TalkingSkull.com? It means that the "Connect with Facebook" button in the right sidebar (or the "[Name], you're connected" box if you've already "connected") may not behave as expected. Pages might refresh spontaneously. You might get logged out without warning.

While these "bugs" or "errors" are not entirely surprising, we'd still like to know about them. Please post your experiences in the comments area below, so that we can keep abreast of what our users are seeing and try to improve the experience for everyone. Please bear with us while Facebook sorts out what they want to do - it might be a slightly bumpy ride for a few weeks.

For the record, TalkingSkull.com complies fully with Facebook's privacy policies, and we don't use any information that isn't available publicly. We want your trust, and that means we don't and won't violate your privacy. However, if you don't want TalkingSkull.com to be connected to your Facebook account anymore, simply go to http://facebook.com/editapps.php (or go to Facebook and click "Application Settings" under the "Account" menu) and then click on the "X" to the right of the TalkingSkull.com application. You can always re-authorize the connection later if you want to.

Facebook issues

I have noticed that when accessing this site via Blackberry, the "Connect with Facebook" link does not work. Not sure if this is true via IE, Firefox et al. Hope this helps.

Hmmm, strange. I'll admit that I haven't been able to test the site on mobile devices yet. The link shows up but doesn't work? Is it clickable at all? Thanks for the feedback.

I'm going to assume that this is a problem with the Blackberry browser, but I could be wrong.

Anyone else having a problem with the "Connect with Facebook" button?

Facebook link via Blackberry

It is not possible to click on the link and it is not highlighted or underlined. It just says "Connect with Facebook" and looks like the title to an article, not a active link.

I am not sure that it is a problem with the Blackberry browser, as I switched the missus's browser over to Firefox, to test for you, and came up with the same thing.

I'm noticing the same in the Safari browser, but it's working fine for me in Firefox.

This could be a lot of different things, but I'm wondering if it might actually be the fact that Facebook is undergoing massive changes at the moment, as I mentioned in the original post. I've noticed some strange/wonky behavior on other websites which are also using the "Connect with Facebook" technology...

Blackberry Browsing

Hi there,

I noticed that it is still not possible to access the Facebook link via a Blackberry, and also the new facility installed which takes you directly to the post when you click on the link does not work on a Blackberry either.

Also, just out of interest how does the "Link with Facebook account" option work? I was a little alarmed to see that I had connected with someone I didnt know yesterday. I do have my Facebook account firmly locked down, and only friends can find my account. Just thinking about the implications. Many thanks.

Link with Facebook account

I can't speak to the Blackberry issues, as the site hasn't been tested on a Blackberry, and every phone/device will have their own issues. Perhaps some day in the future we'll be able to tackle Blackberry-specific problems, but for now it'll have to wait.

As far as the "Link with Facebook account" option goes, all that does is make it so that you can login to your TalkingSkull account using your Facebook credentials. It doesn't connect you to anyone else, and it doesn't do anything to your Facebook account - and in fact it would be absolutely impossible for it to modify your Facebook account. What do you mean when you say you had "connected with someone" you didn't know? It's possible that FB is able to detect that you've been to the TalkingSkull site, and then suggest you become friends with someone else who has also. That's all I can think of...
