How is it possible for someone like "brendathompson1977" to be leading the userpoints tally, despite not posting nearly as many comments as someone like "adjam", who has posted quite a few?

Userpoints for pageviews

Userpoints can be earned in a variety of ways, which is explained in more depth here.

However, the thing that immediately jumps out at me is that brendathompsen1977 has created a poll (That smoking baby's parents should be thrown in jail). She is now earning userpoints for pageviews - every time someone views her poll, she earns points. Likewise, Niesey has recently created an article (When your love of online gaming goes too far), and will start earning userpoints every time someone views that article. By creating a poll or an article, you could potentially earn a lot of userpoints if it proves popular.

For the record, the box on the front page which shows the Top Contributors is for the last 7 days only. So any userpoints earned exactly 7 days ago will start to roll off and won't be counted in that box anymore. And if you don't have any activity for 7 consecutive days, you'll disappear from that box entirely. The userpoints are still there & counted. They just aren't in that specific box anymore, and you'll need to check the overall list to see your lifetime points.

Understood. I guess I better get to work on creating an article, then.
